Simplicity can be gorgeous.
The luxury of space,
of having just what you need.
No clutter.
No want, either.
The balance of life
on a knife’s edge.
I try to do too much —
to write too many things,
plan too many activities,
accomplish too many tasks at home.
I’m trying to eat the whole cake of life
with both hands,
and I’m still surprised
at the mess I make.
My ambition and optimism are still
poorly calibrated.
What will it take for me
to give myself the space
to enjoy each thing I do,
each moment I have,
to attend fully
to each person I encounter or spend time with?
Once I envision a goal,
I want to get to the end post haste,
to reach the “point” directly,
without often thinking
what would actually
make the destination worthwhile.
