December 1: Judgement Day

Wherein our hero reveals whether he lived up to his promise or will try to worm his way out of it…

November flew by, didn’t it? It felt like half a month to me — partly due to the holidays, partly because of quarantining 😷 But we got through it, and somehow I managed to do a little writing along the way!

“A little writing”? Uh oh…

You may remember that I made a promise/wager last month: “In November, I will write 10,000 more words for my WIP, Unburnt… If I don’t reach that goal, I vow that I will DELETE MY TIKTOK ACCOUNT.”

Considering TikTok is my main “marketing” outlet, consuming hours of my week and netting me hundreds of followers (if not actual dollars), that’s no small wager.

*Gulp* OK, so hear me out…

I made a fair amount of progress on Unburnt — so much that I was able to post three new chapters (episodes) on Kindle Vella, which I haven’t done in months. Those chapters totaled 8713 words.

Wait, that’s not 10,000…

Hold on — it gets worse.

I didn’t add 8713 words to the book, but rather revised thousands of words I already had; the chapters were voice-to-text rough drafts that I cleaned up, often losing words in the process. There were days I wrote for a couple hours and had a lower word count than when I started.

In the court of public opinion, I would argue that I definitely wrote thousands more words this month than the final word count reflects. But can I truly make the case that it was 10,000?

Not on Unburnt, no.

HOWEVER, I did publish seven other Vella episodes across two different projects.

That should count for something, right? Right?!

Let’s say it does. Totaling all the published writing I’ve done this month, here’s what I got:

10,321 words. A significant improvement over the past two months, that’s for sure. I’m pleased.

But…

I did make a vow. I didn’t technically achieve what I said I would.

So I’ll leave it up to you: Since I didn’t reached my stated goal, should I delete my TikTok? Leave a comment below, and I will accept whatever fate befalls me.

I’ve gotta run now, though — I had a couple contests I announced on TikTok, and I have to stick to my word and reward the winners before you give me the axe!
